Putin and Trump may discuss the oil and gas industry: expert opinion
1
MOSCOW, August 14 - RIA Novosti. The summit between Russian and American leaders Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump is unlikely to result in agreements on specific projects in the oil and gas sector; however, its outcomes may set the framework for a return to bilateral cooperation in this area, said Sergey Tereshkin, CEO of Open Oil Market, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The Kremlin and the White House previously announced that Putin and Trump will meet in Alaska on August 15.
"The meeting in Alaska is unlikely to conclude with agreements on specific projects in the oil and gas sector; the main topic of discussions will not be 'oil and gas'. However, the meeting may establish new parameters for bilateral cooperation, which could include lifting the ban on energy resource imports from Russia as well as the return of American companies to the Russian market," the expert stated.
According to Tereshkin, the return of U.S. companies is especially important for the implementation of Arctic and deep-water oil and gas projects, which require special technologies and equipment from Russian companies.
